2. Scope of the contract

These terms govern the contracting of the canoe rental service for the touristic descent of the River Sella in Asturias, which includes:

  • Temporary use of an unsinkable canoe (1 to 3 seats), certified.
  • Equipment provided: double paddle, certified life jacket, dry barrel and, on cold dates, wetsuit.
  • Mini paddling class and safety briefing with a qualified instructor before entering the water.
  • Use of our own boarding ramp (optional and free) or the option to board directly from the riverbank.

The service operates on the touristic stretch of the Sella between Arriondas and Fríes (14.5 km) or Arriondas and Toraño (7 km · Mini Sella), under the regulations of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Cantábrico (Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation).

3. Booking process

Bookings can be made through the following channels:

A booking is confirmed when the customer receives confirmation from the provider (by email or message). We recommend booking in advance, especially during high season (July–August) and weekends, as places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and can sell out. Same-day bookings are possible only if the calendar shows availability.

4. Prices and rates

The applicable prices are those published on the prices page, expressed in euros with VAT included. The price in force at the time of booking confirmation applies.

Standard rate (2026 season):

  • Adult (from 13 years): €35 per person
  • Child (5 to 12 years): €25 per person
  • Pets: free

The rate is the same for Mini Sella (7 km) and Full Descent (14.5 km) and includes everything described in the "Scope of the contract" section, with no extras on the day of the activity. The only exception is the Saturday of the International Sella River Descent, with its own rate and conditions detailed on its dedicated page.

5. Payment methods

All bookings are made in advance through the channels listed. The service is not contracted on site without a prior booking. Once the booking is confirmed, the customer can pay in the following ways:

Online advance payment:

  • Credit or debit card via a secure payment gateway.
  • Card payment link sent by email or WhatsApp after the booking.
  • Bank transfer.

Payment on the day of the activity (when picking up the canoe at our Arriondas premises):

  • Card (in-store POS).
  • Bizum (Spanish instant payment service).
  • Cash.
  • Instant bank transfer.

In certain cases (large groups, high-demand dates) a deposit may be requested to secure the place, which will be explicitly communicated to the customer at the time of booking.

Exception · Saturday of the International Sella River Descent: due to the logistics and constraints of the event, bookings for that day are accepted only up to the day before (for the 2026 edition, until 7 August) and with mandatory advance payment by card or instant bank transfer. Cash or same-day payment is not accepted for this specific date.

6. Cancellations and changes

Cancellations by the customer:

  • More than 48 hours in advance: free cancellation or date change, with full refund of any amount paid.
  • Less than 48 hours or no-show: the company may retain the deposit paid or charge the full service amount if it was paid in advance. We assess each case sensitively, depending on circumstances.

Cancellations or changes by the company:

In the event of adverse weather conditions, closures or restrictions imposed by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Cantábrico, force majeure or exceptional circumstances that prevent the service from being delivered safely, the company will offer the customer a free date change or full refund of any amount paid.

The final decision on whether the river is suitable for descent rests with the provider, guided by safety criteria.

7. Customer obligations and health requirements

By contracting the service, the customer undertakes to:

  • Provide truthful information about participants, ages, sizes and special needs (allergies, medical restrictions).
  • Arrive on time at the agreed schedule. Delays of more than 30 minutes may result in the booking being cancelled without refund.
  • Meet the minimum age and height requirements (see "Minors" section).
  • Follow the staff's instructions during the mini class and the activity.
  • Mandatory use of the life jacket throughout the descent.
  • Comply with the river's navigation and safety rules.
  • Return the canoe, paddle, life jacket and dry barrel in the same condition in which they were delivered.
  • Not transfer the equipment to unauthorized third parties or to persons under the influence of alcohol or substances.
  • Respect the natural environment: leave no waste, do not disturb wildlife, respect other river users.
  • Comply with the maximum time on the water until 18:00, in accordance with the regulations of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Cantábrico.

Mandatory health restrictions:

For the participant's safety and as required by our insurance providers, the Sella descent cannot be undertaken in the following cases:

  • Knowing how to swim is mandatory. Although the life jacket is certified and worn throughout the activity, the customer must be able to swim to participate.
  • Serious illnesses: cardiovascular, respiratory, epilepsy or other conditions that may be aggravated by physical effort, cold-water immersion or the river environment.
  • Pregnancy: pregnant women cannot participate, in any trimester.
  • Intoxication or being under the influence of substances that alter physical abilities or perception.

If the customer has doubts about a specific medical condition, they should contact us before booking. The customer is responsible for informing us of any relevant condition. The provider reserves the right to refuse the activity if a clear risk is detected, with no right to refund if the information was not provided in advance.

8. Liability and insurance

Provider's liability:

The provider guarantees that the canoe and equipment are delivered in good working condition. The service includes civil liability insurance and accident insurance with cover under the terms and limits of the policy contracted, in accordance with the regulations applicable to active tourism activities in Asturias.

Coverage exclusions:

  • Damage resulting from improper use of equipment or failure to follow staff instructions.
  • Damage caused by reckless behaviour or activities outside the descent (jumping from bridges, climbing on banks, etc.).
  • Activity under the influence of alcohol or substances.
  • Damage to the customer's personal belongings (phones, cameras, jewellery, etc.) — we recommend using the dry barrel.

Customer's liability:

The customer is responsible for damage caused to the canoe, equipment or premises through improper use, negligence or wilful misconduct. In the event of loss or damage to equipment, the cost of replacement or repair will apply.

9. Minors

Minors' participation in the Sella descent is subject to strict safety requirements:

  • Minimum age: 5 years old.
  • Minimum height: 1.15 m.
  • Minors must always be accompanied in the canoe by a responsible adult.
  • Use of the life jacket fitted to their size is mandatory during the entire descent.
  • The accompanying adult accepts responsibility for the minor's safety and behaviour.

Minors who do not meet these minimum requirements are not admitted, even with adult supervision or if they can swim. This policy responds to the requirements of our insurance providers and our own safety criteria.

10. Force majeure and weather

Rain does not automatically cancel the descent. If it rains but the river remains open and in safe conditions, the activity goes ahead as normal. The Sella descent takes place in a natural environment and getting wet is part of the experience.

We cancel or reschedule the descent only when the activity involves a real safety risk for the customer, including:

  • Thunderstorms or an active orange/red weather warning.
  • River floods with flow or current outside safe parameters.
  • Express recommendation from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Cantábrico.
  • Closures or restrictions imposed by any competent authority.
  • Public-health or public-order emergencies.
  • Other force-majeure events (strikes, acts of authority) outside the provider's reasonable control.

The final decision on whether the river is suitable for descent rests with the provider, guided by safety criteria and information from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Cantábrico.

In the event of cancellation for these reasons, the customer will be offered a free date change or full refund of any amount paid.

11. Data protection

Personal data provided by the customer when making the booking is processed in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD). For detailed information on purposes, legal basis, retention periods, recipients and how to exercise your rights, see our Privacy Policy.

12. Complaints

For any complaint related to the service, the customer can first contact us at:

Official complaint forms are available to customers at our Arriondas premises.

If the complaint is not resolved satisfactorily, the customer may turn to the Consumer Arbitration Board of the Principality of Asturias or, for online purchases, to the European Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/ .

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Spanish law. For the resolution of any dispute arising from their interpretation or performance, the parties submit to the Courts of Oviedo (Asturias, Spain), unless current legislation establishes a different mandatory forum for consumers.

14. Changes

The provider reserves the right to modify these terms at any time to adapt them to legislative, operational or commercial changes. The modifications are published on the website and come into force from that moment. Each booking will be subject to the version in force at the time of confirmation.

The last update date appears at the top of this document.
